4-Hour Fall Prevention (SST-305)
Course Schedule In-Person:
- Monday, September 21, 2026: 09:00 AM – 01:00 PM
The 4-Hour Fall Prevention (SST-305) course provides essential training to recognize, evaluate, and prevent fall hazards in construction environments. The course focuses on practical fall-prevention principles, safe work practices, and proper use of fall protection systems to help workers reduce the risk of serious injuries and fatalities.
Falls are among the most serious hazards in the construction industry. This 4-hour fall prevention training helps workers understand common fall hazards, recognize unsafe conditions, and apply appropriate prevention and protection measures while working at heights, around openings, ladders, scaffolds, and other elevated work areas.
The 4-Hour Fall Prevention course is an NYC Department of Buildings (DOB)-approved Site Safety Training (SST) prescribed course and provides 4 hours of SST credit when completed through a DOB-registered course provider.
Why Is 4-Hour Fall Prevention Training Required?
Under NYC Local Law 196, workers who are required to have an SST card must complete specific DOB-approved training. The 4-Hour Fall Prevention course is one of the prescribed SST courses recognized by the NYC Department of Buildings.
The training is important because it helps workers:
- Recognize fall hazards before an incident occurs
- Understand basic fall prevention and protection requirements
- Use appropriate fall protection equipment and systems
- Work safely around elevated surfaces and openings
- Reduce the risk of serious injuries and fatalities
- Maintain compliance with applicable NYC SST requirements
The 4-Hour Fall Prevention course may also be used as part of different SST training combinations. For example, DOB lists 4-Hour Fall Prevention together with other required SST courses when establishing pathways toward an SST card.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the 4-Hour Fall Prevention (SST-305) course, participants will be able to:
- Identify common fall hazards on construction sites
- Recognize unsafe conditions that can lead to falls
- Understand basic fall prevention and protection requirements
- Identify appropriate fall protection systems and equipment
- Understand the importance of proper PPE and equipment use
- Apply safe work practices when working at elevated locations
- Help reduce fall-related risks and injuries

SST Credit & DOB Requirements
The NYC Department of Buildings recognizes 4-Hour Fall Prevention as an SST Prescribed Course. The course provides 4 hours of SST credit toward applicable Site Safety Training requirements when taken through a DOB-registered course provider.
Workers should verify their individual SST card requirements and ensure that all required training is completed with a DOB-registered course provider. DOB also advises trainees to confirm whether the provider issues SST cards.
