Course Overview
The 40 Hour Site Safety Manager course is a comprehensive training program designed to prepare construction professionals for effective site safety management in New York City. This course provides in-depth instruction on safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and the responsibilities of a Site Safety Manager.
The training emphasizes both worker safety and public protection on construction sites. Participants will gain knowledge of Chapter 33 of the NYC Construction Codes and related rules, preparing them for the Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator licensing exams. This course is also a prerequisite for individuals applying for a Site Safety Coordinator or Construction Superintendent license.
The 40 Hour Site Safety Manager course equips participants with the skills to manage risks, oversee safety programs, and implement procedures in alignment with NYC rules and regulations.
NYC Site Safety Requirements
According to NYC Construction Codes – Title 28, applicants for Site Safety Manager or Coordinator licenses must provide proof of completion of the 40 Hour Site Safety Manager Training. For Construction Superintendents, certification of completion of this course is also required.
As of July 1, 2016, projects involving façades or buildings 15 stories or higher require a designated safety professional—such as a Site Safety Manager, rigging foreman, rigger, or qualified safety professional—who has completed appropriate training to oversee site safety.
To qualify as a Safety Manager, the following training is required:
40-Hour Site Safety Manager Training (plus a 7-hour refresher every 3 years)
32-Hour Supported Scaffold Installer Training (plus 8-hour refresher every 4 years)
32-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor Training (plus 8-hour refresher every 4 years)
OSHA Construction Training, minimum 10-hour OSHA every 5 years
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Participants who complete the course are eligible for 4.0 CEUs, subject to the following requirements:
100% attendance for the 40-hour course
Completion of the Continuing Education and Training Registration Form
Active participation in all class exercises
Completion of required pre- and post-course quizzes
Achieving the minimum passing score on the final examination (if applicable)
Submission of the end-of-course evaluation form with participant name

Upon successful completion of the 40 Hour Site Safety Manager course, participants will be able to:
Explain the differences between types of safety professionals and their roles
Recognize the purpose and rationale behind NYC construction safety rules and regulations
Identify effective safety practices and procedures for protecting the public and property during construction and demolition
Understand proper communication with licensed safety professionals and the NYC Department of Buildings
Differentiate between OSHA standards and NYC DOB Chapter 33 regulations
Identify potential fire hazards and apply prevention measures in compliance with the NYC Fire Code
Additional Benefits
Completion of this course allows participants to apply 14 hours of the training toward their Supervisor SST card and may be used as an equivalent for the following courses:

2 Hours of Specialized Electives
