Course Overview
The 30 Hour Climber / Tower Crane Rigger course is a comprehensive training program designed for licensed riggers, crane operators, rigging foremen, and other construction professionals involved with tower crane operations in New York City. This course is a mandatory requirement for individuals applying for a Tower Crane Rigger license, providing the knowledge and skills needed to safely operate, inspect, and manage cranes and hoisting equipment.
The training emphasizes fall protection, crane assembly and disassembly, operational communications, inspections, and accident prevention, preparing participants to work safely on complex construction sites. Successful completion results in a 30-Hour Climber / Tower Crane Rigger certification, which is required to submit applications to the DCAS.
Course Topics
Participants will develop a strong understanding of:
Crane and derrick safety requirements and OSHA regulations
Relevant sections of CFR 29 OSHA 1926 (Subparts E, H, K, L, M, CC)
NYC Rules of the City (Title 1), including Chapter 6 (cranes) and Chapter 9 (rigging)
Applicable NYC Construction Codes
Administrative procedures of the NYC Department of Buildings
Fall protection protocols and requirements
Pre-lift planning and safety assessments
Proper signaling and communication methods with crane operators
Crane and hoist inspection procedures
Emergency response procedures during crane operations
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this 30-hour program, participants will be able to:
Demonstrate proper fall protection techniques when working on cranes
Conduct thorough crane and hoist inspections and identify unsafe conditions
Apply OSHA and NYC regulations to crane and rigging operations
Perform pre-lift planning and risk assessments
Communicate effectively with crane operators using proper signals
Implement safety protocols and emergency response procedures on site
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
3.0 CEUs awarded upon meeting course requirements, including:
100% attendance
Completion of registration and evaluation forms
